What Makes Bank Charges Unfair?

Posted in Finance on November 30th, 2011 by admin

If you have a bank account, then you probably have an idea on what bank charges are. However, the charges that a bank imposes upon its customers do not only revolve around a personal account. Instead, it covers all charges and fees that are required by a bank. The amounts vary depending on the bank that a person transacts with. They can be classified as those that are paid for specific transactions, those that are due very month for the account, those that are imposed upon exceeding the authorized overdraft limits and those that refers to the interest of overdrafts.

However, most of the time, unfair bank charges are gotten off from the accounts of the customers. The bank charges and the amounts involved can come up to £35 which is way too high and burdensome especially to those people who only have enough money in their accounts. What makes it even worse is that they are directly applied to the account without first giving notice to the holder.

One gets unfair bank charges during late payments and when he makes an overdraft which is unauthorized. Moreover, a common cause of these fees also includes bouncing checks and gong beyond the limit of authorized overdraft. Lastly, there are also cases in which a client unknowingly has been mis sold mortgages. This is why after a battle of ideas, now a client who is deprived of his money can now reclaim bank charges.

A person who depends solely on his earning and such earning is only enough for what he needs, then certainly it will be a toil to see his debts pile just because of minor account problems. This may worsen too if he gets sick, ill or meet an accident that hinders him to do his daily job. Worst if he is paying for a mis sold mortgages. The bank charges can be a big burden in his shoulder.

There are two ways in which a person can ask for a refund. The first step that a claimant can do to reclaim bank charges is to write directly to the bank and ask for the refund. But if this is not possible, then, the help of the County Court must be sought. However, with the convenience of computer, the court system in itself now allows the claims to be made online. Customers thus can make a successful claim even in the comfort of their own houses.

Posted in Living green on November 24th, 2011 by Mae

If you are going to eat mushrooms, you should be careful. Whether they grow in the wild, grown from a garden or bought in a farmer’s market or grocery store, edible ones are the ones you should go for. They are not generally vegetables but are part of the fungi family which can make them either poisonous or edible depending on the type. They have different distinct flavors and are either cooked or eaten raw. The usual and most popular ones that are edible are shiitake, portobello, chanterelles, button and puffballs.

One of the edible mushrooms are what you call the table or button mushrroms. They are they most common ones used for salads and cooking. They are white in color and have small caps and stems. You can also find what they call field mushrooms or portobello mushrooms. They have large open caps of about four to six inches in diameter and have a rich and meaty flavor. they usually find them in the wild out in native Europe but they are considered a delicacy and are cultivated widely. They are considered a meat substitute for vegetarians and have a very thick texture. They are dark brown in color and grilling is the recommended way to cook them.

The next edible mushroom are the golden chanterelles or the chanterelle mushrooms. They have are golden appearance, their caps are shaped like trumpets with wavy edges and they can range in size from the small ones you find in Europe and Asia to those that are as a big as your fist in the U.s. Last kind of the popular edible mushrooms are puffballs and they can be as small as a golf ball to as big as a soccer ball. Making Your White Shirts Look White Again

Posted in Living green on November 12th, 2011 by Mae

White shirts can be very good to wear but one of the hardest to clean and maintain. It’s a very challenging to keep these shirts clean and white the same way as they were when you bought them. White show wear and stains more often than darker colors do which is why it is hard to make them clean enough for your standards. When your white starts to look like gray than its original color, there are a few things you can do to turn it back to its original appearance. The right laundry techniques are all you need to make your whites look new again.

First, wash the white shirts on a separate load with the use of warm water. Whites are not supposed to be mixed witht he colored ones as they can pick up some of the colored dye and stain the whole shirt. Next, get water softener, borax or washing soda and add half a cup of it to the loadof the whites in case you have hard water. These products will increase the effectiveness of the laundry detergent you are using. In case the clothes are very dirty or if you are using chlorine bleach on the load, use extra laundry detergent

Make sure you check first the label on the shirt to see if you can use chlorine bleach. Use a cup of the bleach and dilute it witha quart of water before you will add it to the machine. If your fabric cannot take the chlorine bleach, use non-chlorine oxygen bleach. If you use oxygen bleach rather than chlorine bleach in high iron water, the combination of hot water and iron will make your shirt look yellow. These are just simple steps you can follow to make your whites look whiter. Make sure you follow them carefully to avoid staining your whites instead of getting them to look whiter.

Insurance can be extremely useful especially now that we are living in a world full of uncertainties. This is the reason why insurance providers are coming out in the market to offer insurance policies that are suitable for every consumer needs. Examples are Life, Health, Accident and Fire Insurance.

Once you are already a policyholder, you are entitled to be given compensation in ratio of the amount paid to the companies repaying PPI. This is true in all types of insurance. And this is also applicable to the new type of insurance policy called Payment Protection Insurance or commonly known in the United Kingdom where it was first introduced, as PPI.

PPI must not be treated alike with other type of insurance policies. Yes, it has the same benefit as the other policy but on the contrary, PPI would put you into a big trouble if it is inappropriate for you to have. This is the very disadvantage of PPI policy because it is not suitable for everybody.

Due to its nature of being unbefitting, controversy about this policy arises. This controversy refers to mis sold Payment Protection Insurance. Mis sold PPI is due to some instances, such as the policyholder is not aware that he or she even has the policy. This problem is not anymore new in the United Kingdom. As a matter of fact, many high-profiled and small time lenders and insurance companies have already been fined millions of pounds for unscrupulously miss-selling PPI. Claims for PPI’s is the best way to resolve this case.

So if you believe that you are one of the policyholders affected by mis sold PPI, file a complaint against the lender, bank or insurance provider where you had acquired your policy. Classifying Vintage Furniture

Posted in Finance on November 3rd, 2011 by Mae

You would sometimes wonder what type of antique furniture you got from a flea market you just went to. You would want to know how to classify it by period or its type of design. If you want to do so then you moslty have to base it on the materials being used, the symmetry, the ornamentation and the style of legs, backs and feet to classify them accordingly.

One of those styles is Rococo and this is from France during its pre-revolutionary period and mostly associated with Louis XV. This style favors graceful eccentricity rather than symmetry like most furnitures. It is often fanciful and has a lot ornamented pieces that feature curves of gold and silver accents.

Another style is chippendale. This furniture stule comes from the 18th century named after a cabinet maker, Thomas Chippendale. This style mostly has graceful lines, cabriole legs, ball-and-claw feet and large decorative pediments. Elements of France, Asia and Goth are what you would mostly see in it. For the American Chippendale, it is derived from the Queen Anne Style. The most popular ones are wing chairs and camel-back sofas.

You would also have the Victorian style of furnitures. This style is referential and it usually features updated elements of the past styles like Federal and Rococo. The designs for the dining chairs for this style is usually open, rounded backs that have curved legs. They are also noted for Gothic quality and they are mostly heavy, ornately carved and made of dark woods. They are mostly taken interest because this is the first furniture style that was mass-produced.

The next style would be Federal or American Empire. It has high contrasting wood inlays, light construction and straight lines. This style is associated with Duncan Phyfe and was a cabinet maker that used lyre motifs as well as X-shaped supports frequently. But these look more delicate than other styles and the dining chairs have thin, straight and often times, tapered legs.

Mission style is another category of vintage furnitures. This is also called arts and crafts and this started in the late 19th and early 20th century in America. This was made because of the thinking that there is already an excess on the Victorian style. The early time period of this style was sturdy, handcrafted and reliable because it is mostly made from oak. The problem is, it was seen as a rejection of mass-produced goods. Most of the furnitures are simple and symmetrical in construction. The hallmarks for this style are flat panels, vertical and horizontal lines.

The last style is mid-century modern and this was mostly inspried by 1950s Scandinavian furniture. These designs are clean and symmetrical and mostly have hallmarks like bold color, clean lines and inorganic materials. They are mostly made of plastics and steels but some are from pine, mahogany and teak. They tend to be low to ground, adorned minimally, and have short thin legs. All of these styles are what you consider as vintage.
